Product Description
#1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille delivers the long-awaited follow-up to his classic novel The Gold Coast.

When John Sutter's aristocratic wife killed her mafia don lover, John left America and set out in his sailboat on a three-year journey around the world, eventually settling in London. Now, ten years later, he has come home to the Gold Coast, that stretch of land on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America, to attend the imminent funeral of an old family servant. Taking up temporary residence in the gatehouse of Stanhope Hall, John finds himself living only a quarter of a mile from Susan who has also returned to Long Island. But Susan isn't the only person from John's past who has reemerged: Though Frank Bellarosa, infamous Mafia don and Susan's ex-lover, is long dead, his son, Anthony, is alive and well, and intent on two missions: Drawing John back into the violent world of the Bellarosa family, and exacting revenge on his father's murderer--Susan Sutter. At the same time, John and Susan's mutual attraction resurfaces and old passions begin to reignite, and John finds himself pulled deeper into a familiar web of seduction and betrayal. In THE GATE HOUSE, acclaimed author Nelson Demille brings us back to that fabled spot on the North Shore -- a place where past, present, and future collides with often unexpected results.

Customer Reviews:
No page turner, but extremely funny!
I have to agree with the poor ratings for this book as I too picked up this book from previous DeMille reads that were good experiences, but found the book very slow and lacking any sort of intriguing plot or mystery. I have to say however that I found it to be extremely funny, so much so I would throw my head back and laugh out loud at what Sutter would say or think. So, I found the writing to be very witty and the only consolation for finishing what is an average book at best.

The Gate House
I was anxious to read another Ken Follett book but this one is a disappointment. There is the same sarcastic wit but it drags on and on and it was frustrating trying to figure out where it was going. Not up to his usual fast paced story line.

Excellent condition
The book I received was in excellent condition, was very well priced and delivered in a very timely manner.

Just Walk On By
John Sutter moved to London after his wife,Susan, killed her Mafia don lover, Frank Bellarosa.
Now Sutter returns to the Gold Coast of Long Island for the death and funeral of an old family servant.
Anthony Bellarosa shows up at Sutter's home and offers him a job. He questions Sutter about tax work he had done for his father and questions about his father's death.
Sutter sees Susan and tells her that Bellarosa might want revenge for killing his father.
Sutter and Barbara see each other again and become intimate but she disregards his concern about Bellarosa. They agree to remarry. When he next sees Bellarosa and tells him of his renewed love of Susan and their plans, Bellarosa becomes furious. He makes another threat and tells Sutter that he is not immune from fallout.
Many of DeMille's novels have been outstanding, particularly "The Charm School" "Plum Island," and "The Lion's Gate." However this novel is a downward step in readability. There are pages and pages where nothing happens, Sutter has a sarcastic wit and his dialogue is sharp but the plot is a bore. It was a struggle to finish and I would not recommend it.

great deal
